Large energy users call for the NEG to be implemented without delay
14 August 2018
The Business Council of Australia together with some of Australia’s largest energy users, employing over 50,000 Australians, welcome the constructive progress made last week on the development of the National Energy Guarantee.
By agreeing to take the Guarantee to the next stage, energy ministers have demonstrated that they are committed to ensuring a more affordable and reliable energy system, as we transition to a lower-emissions economy.
Energy policy uncertainty over the past decade has stalled investment, driven up electricity prices and resulted in a less stable and reliable energy system. Australian businesses and industry cannot afford another period of inaction.
We call on federal, state and territory parliamentarians to take the necessary steps to implement the Guarantee without further delay this week.
Not doing so risks volatile electricity prices, inadequate investment in new generation and a less competitive environment for Australian businesses.
